Martin has asked me to put this up:
MARTIN OLDHAM FROM CHART STARS THE OTHERS TO TAKE PARTIN HEART CHARITY'S 27th TOWER OF LONDON JOGOn Wednesday 11 May Martin Oldham from Manchester, whois a member of NME Award-winning London band The Others, will joinmore than a thousand fun-runners in the city's longest running jog- The British Heart Foundation's (BHF) Tower of London Jog. The Others are best known for their guerilla-giggingand their intensely devoted fan base. The annual jog, now in its 27th year, is the onlyevent which enables people to walk or jog around the grass moat of thehistoric Tower of London. Martin, who will be taking part for the first timewith a small group of friends, said: "I have a heart condition myself, which has involved hospital visits during my childhood, and I really wantto give something back and help the BHF. Although my heart conditiondoes not affect my everyday life, I do have to be careful, and so manypeople are touched in some way by heart disease. I am really lookingforward to taking part and helping to raise much needed funds for such aworthwhile charity. I hope I can encourage other people to take part too!"During 1998-2000, heart disease killed over 2,000people under the age of 65 in East London and the City . Every two minutessomeone has a heart attack and people are still more likely to dieof heart and circulatory disease than any other serious illness. Money raised from the Jog will help the nation's heartcharity continue to fund pioneering research into the causes andtreatment of heart disease that saves and improves the lives ofvulnerable men, women and children. The Tower of London Jog is a fun run of between oneand ten laps - each lap is 1km and joggers can run or walk as many or asfew as they wish. Trisha Snow, the British Heart Foundation's RegionalEvents Executive says: "I am delighted to say that last year over athousand joggers took part and helped to break the £100,000 barrier for thefirst time in the long history of this event, raising over £113,000! Aswell as being great fun all funds raised make a huge difference tothe BHF's urgent fight against heart and circulatory disease - the UK'ssingle biggest killer. So please join us at this very special eventand choose your own pace as you travel around the unique moat of the Towerof London!"To register for the British Heart Foundation's TowerJog or for more information please free phone on 0800 389 9750 orregister online at www.bhf.org.uk/towerjog
