Campaign news

The launch of the RAR/HOPE NOT HATE club night at Brixton Jamm on friday 8th Feb was a stunning success. The club was packed out with music fans and press fired up for the usual
RAR mix of pop and politics and for some of us old-timers it was a lovely trip down memory lane so it was a pleasure to have Jerry Dammers from the Specials and Skegsy from the Ruts on hand to reminise about the good old days and to compare the visible signs of middle age. Essex lad
the Marlers got us underway followed by the Mentalists who proved once again that the judges on Channel Fours Mobile Act Unsigned know nothing. Then the Krak did their stuff and proved what a wise move it was for the Militant Entertainment lable to sign them up - they will be massive and between successive toe-tappers of the highest order they sent out an anti-bnp message to the growing crowd. Local heros the Thirst showed why they are tipped by the NME to be massive this year - Pete Doherty made it down but due to a hold up at the studio in Wandsworth wasn't able to do a tune but we all appreciated his support for this important night. And so we headed into the small hours with The Others. The lost bass player was eventually
located and the place went nuts with beer sloshed about, a stage invasion and general mayhem. Dominic Masters did the honours with an expletive laced tirade against the fascists. Top work Dom Dammers DJ'd the main bar and I stumbled off out into the south london night with me voice hoarse, me knees aching and a little bit Guinnessed up but happy that we'd done Red Saunders and the RAR legacy proud. The Others @ Limonaia
Manuele Vestri - 09/02/2008
Fucecchio, IT, 31st January 2008
Another British Invasion gig at the Italian club Limonaia.
This time is up to The Others to entertain the avid italian audience.
Their fame of being rebel and to produce "guerrilla gigs" has preceeded them, and they did not fail to do so in the heart of Tuscany too.
The gig has been labelled by the crowd as the "best live" for 2008, which really gives an idea of how the performance was.
The band entertained the italian audience with tracks form their second album Inward Parts, but I suppose the audience was much more impressed with the guerilla act put on stage by Dominic rather than the actual music.
The night was a sure success and the band also enjoyed themselves, receiving compliments by everyone and also being challenged in an alcohol competition by one of the locals, who, needless to say, won it. British may have the best music, but Tuscan win in heavy drinks competitions!

Manchester Live Review From www.noordinarymusic.com
THE OTHERS / NEW RHODES
In The City, Dry Bar, Manchester
27 Oct 2006
In The City, the annual event that sees Manchester host the biggest city based music festival in the country, introduces both music lovers and industry officials to the best in new music and unsigned talent. You could say its England's very own mini SXSW!
There are a decent number of people watching as New Rhodes work their way through the best of their new album, but it's safe to say that most are there to pass the time until the true headliners of the night-The Others- take to the stage!
After an absence from the scene for a while, The Others return with new album 'Inward Parts'. From start to finish, fronted by the now infamous Dominic Masters- who spends more time in the crowd and on top of the speakers, than on the actual stage – they work there way through an almost perfect set list of old and new songs. They clearly know how to work the crowd, which by this time has surged forward and become a sweaty pit of hardcore fans that all seem to want to get as close to they band as they can! It has been a long time since I have been to a gig with as much atmosphere and attitude as this – without glow sticks, at least! Old favourites such as 'William' and 'Lackey' receive an incredible response, with everyone, as far as I can see, joining in. The new songs ('The Truth That Hurts', 'Thick As Thieves') have a different tone to them which makes it clear that the band have developed since they were last touring. The key to the shows success though is Dom; there are few leads that give out as much energy, intensity and 'give a shit' attitude as he does tonight. The Others are back and pretty soon, if tonight is anything to go by, everyone is going to know about it.
The Others Setlist
Guard My Kind, Lackey, Looking For A Product, Truth That Hurts, Always Be Mine, Desolate, Stan Bowles, Watch It, Got No Money, William, Why Should I Try?, Thick As Thieves, Probate, Poor

Cheers Germany!
We've just got back from 4 gigs in Germany where we had a great time :)
Our tour manager and driver Uli, looked after us brilliantly and we could not have done it without him. Cheers Uli.
Huge thanks to Bernie, the promoter for booking us, and making it possible for us to play in Germany.
It was also a great pleasure to meet and gig with The Hedrons and The Wombats. lovely people and both great bands!
Cheers also to Richard and our other friends who added to the pleasure of the trip :)
As always it was cool to meet lots of new people at the gigs, thanks to everyone who came to see us.
There was one hitch before we left however, when Johnny realised that he'd lost his passport. This was about 11pm on Wednesday. our flight was 8am on Thursday......so no bass player!
In stepped Middo, the hero of the tour. our friend and tec, he was coming over with us anyway, and he offered to stand in for Johnny.
He'd never played with us before, and didnt know how to play any of the songs on bass, but we had less than 24 hours til the first gig so no problem!
Middo stayed up all night listening to the albums, and we had a few hours before the gig at Cologne to practice. thanks to his musicianship and hard work we managed to play the gigs.
In Munich Tord from The Wombats played bass with us on 'Desolate' which went really well. cheers Tord!
Johnny was very disappointed that he couldn't make it this time but he'll be there when we return.
the gigs were all really good, the highlight was probably Berlin Lido with a 400 plus capacity crowd and electric atmosphere. This gig also went out live on Germany's Radio 1. Cologne, Hamburg and Munich were also really cool.
needless to say, the drink flowed and partying was had :)
we're looking forward to coming back!
thanks again to everyone who came to the gigs, and everyone that looked after us over there, particularly Uli and Bernie
cheers! The Others x

The Others - Probate
(Lime Records)
8/10 - A must-listen.
The Others
This is indie music with a dangerous bite! The Others have great tone and melody, but they also have the scope to notch up the anger for high-impact blistering moments.
'Probate' has been recorded in a way that captures the electric atmosphere of a live show, while maintaining studio-quality standards. The length of the song, which is eight and a half minutes, does nothing to diminish its impact; it's plain and simple brilliant.
'Looking For A Product' is like Chicane crossed with The Enemy and 'It Doesn't Matter To Me' is a tidy demo recording that provides a charming addition to the single for ardent fans.
The Others have got a great sound, strong views and the determination to mix both together.

Italia- Grazie! :)
we've just returned from a 5 date tour of Italy and always we had a brilliant time!
check Dom's blog as i'm sure he's sure to write up a full report of our time there.
once again we were looked after and driven around by our friend Eric who also booked the gigs, hotels and restaurants.
we covered a good few thousand kilometers from Rome and Bolonga to the very south in Lecce.
it was lovely to see all our friends from previous Italian gigs, aswell as meeting lots of new people.
also we were lucky to have the company of Sally, Katherine and Harley from the UK (thanks for putting up with/looking after us! ) cheers also to Richard who came over for the Ancona date!
The gigs were great- made so by all of the people that turned up- and as always we were treated wonderfully by everyone.
we very much enjoyed the usual Italian hospitality and it's safe to say we took full advantage of the plentiful alcohol etc....... it's not often Dominic has to be carried up to his room!
from Rome to Bolongna to the beautiful town of Fuccecchio- on to our 'spiritual Italian home' Ancona and finally down to Lecce- thanks to everyone who came to the gigs, all soundguys and tecs, to Laura, Macca, Danielle, Marta, Serena, Fran, Elisa, Lucy, Molly and everyone else- and most of all to Eric- a huge thankyou!!
see you again soon :)
